Year 11 & 12 aim high with visit to University of Oxford

General

On Thursday 17 November a group of Pre-Sixth and Year 12 pupils visited Lady Margaret Hall in Oxford as part of the school's 'Aim High' programme. This particular trip is offered to encourage pupils to consider a Higher Education application to Oxford or Cambridge University, two leading institutions with an international reputation. The day consisted of a question-and-answer session with an admissions tutor, a presentation on life at Oxford, a tour of the university campus with current students, a lunch in LMH's dining room, and a walking tour of the area around the College which took in many sites of interest. It is hoped that pupils gained a real insight into life at Oxford and that they may now feel motivated to consider this as a real possibility for their future study.

William, Pre-Sixth.
"I was given the opportunity to visit Oxford University, an unforgettable experience. I was toured around the campus of Lady Margaret Hall and told about student life by a current second-year student. I also had the fantastic opportunity to speak with the Admissions Supervisor, and learn how to get into Oxford. The experience was inspiring and allowed me to believe that Oxford University is a dream that is now attainable. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity."

Annabelle, Pre-Sixth.
"Amazing!"

Charlotte, Pre-Sixth.
"As soon as I got home I was telling my mum about the architecture, the different atmospheres, the schedules... Hearing from a student really helped it to sink in. I knew it was always my mum's dream to read English Literature at Oxford, which sadly could not be achieved, so I couldn't hope for a more supportive figure in my academic journey. Perhaps at this time in two years I'll be achieving my own dream of reading Engineering at one of the big ones!"

Abigail, Pre-Sixth.
"The experience was well worth it. We walked around Lady Margaret Hall and I was blown away by how it looked, it seemed to be a very welcome, inclusive environment. Talking to our tour guides and two tutors really helped me gain a better understanding of what it's like to be a student, and how if I worked hard enough and really tried, I could maybe get there too."
