The Grand Re-Opening of Tranby's Foyer

The Grand Re-Opening of Tranby's Foyer

It was a truly special morning at Tranby as pupils, staff, and governors gathered to celebrate the official reopening of our beautifully restored foyer. The atmosphere was filled with emotion and pride, a clear reminder of how much the school means to everyone within our community.

The restoration project, which began in the summer, has been one of the most significant enhancements to our historic building in recent years. The works included the installation of a new waterproof lantern above the ceiling glass, new ceiling glazing to allow even more natural light to flood into the space, repaired and replaced ceiling panels, and the careful restoration of the ornamental woodwork. Externally, the slate tiles have been renewed and a magnificent new lead roof — built to last an incredible 300 years — now safeguards this important part of the school.

During the reopening ceremony, the Head - Mr Wainman - thanked Operation Director, Mr Brett for his exceptional leadership and oversight throughout the project. Pupils and staff also received heartfelt appreciation for their patience and flexibility during the weeks of disruption, from adapting morning routines to rerouting across the school.

A particularly touching moment came when the Head recognised Mr Chambers, who not only supported in the restoration of the ornamental woodwork but also created a unique keepsake for every member of the Tranby community. Crafted from the timber of the much-loved Cedar Tree that once stood on the Prep lawn, each beautifully made keyring symbolises both heritage and continuity.

The ribbon was then cut by Chair of Governors, Mr Paul Grimwood, joined by Head Prefects Alice and Louis, and Year 6 pupils Aliyah and Oliver, officially marking the beginning of this new chapter in our school’s story.

The restored foyer now stands as a shining testament to Tranby’s history, craftsmanship, and community spirit — and a space that will be enjoyed for generations to come.
