Exploring the Roasting and Science of Coffee: Pupils Embark on a Flavourful Journey at Lincoln & York Coffee Roaster

General

Last week’s visit to Lincoln & York by the Safi Coffee team and Safi ambassadors from Wetherby Senior School was not only informative but also enjoyable. We are proud of the Safi Coffee initiative, which not only provides a delicious product but also contributes to crucial educational funding in Uganda.

The educational aspect of the visit, including the tour of the factory, presentations by the Category Insight Manager, Richard Milner, and learning about the history of coffee, adds a valuable dimension to the experience for the pupils. Understanding the entire process from raw beans to the completed product helps them appreciate the journey and the impact of their efforts in supporting education in Uganda.

The mention of the legend of Kaldi adds a nice touch, connecting the pupils to the rich history and origins of coffee. Learning about market trends and the value share of the coffee component provides insight into the broader industry landscape, and it's interesting to note the relatively small proportion of the overall cost of a cup of coffee attributed to the coffee itself.

Following the visit, pupils travelled to Tranby for a school partnership meeting and enjoyed a virtual Q&A with Nigel Little, Chaplain at Felsted School in Essex, who shared ideas on how the their Safi team operates.

Huge thanks to Ian, Richard, and Rachel for your hospitality. It was another successful and enriching experience for all pupils.
