Year 3 - Winning in the Wilderness!
Last week, our adventurous Year 3 pupils completed our bespoke programme of four educational group activities, expertly delivered by the team from Outdoors People. Designed to develop resilience, creativity, and collaboration, the activities were all themed around bushcraft, survival, and teamwork – key life skills that we believe are best learned through hands-on, muddy-booted experience, and all of which align perfectly with the Tranby PSB!
Over the course of the programme, the children built and worked together in bell tents, crafted their own survival bracelets, and designed Bronze Edge pendants to mark their achievements. Scroll to the bottom of the page for all the fantastic pictures!
One of the most memorable sessions involved learning how to filter dirty water – which, with a little magic and a lot of laughter, was transformed into hot chocolate! There was also the brave (and slightly crunchy) challenge of trying edible bugs – a true test of courage and open-mindedness! We were amazed at how the children embraced this challenge...and of course, this meant no teacher could shy away from the (bushtucker) trial at hand!
These immersive sessions not only sparked curiosity and wonder but also gave every child the chance to step slightly outside of their comfort zone, all within the safe and familiar surroundings of Tranby’s stunning school grounds. It may have felt like the middle of the wilderness, but we were never far from home – providing the perfect setting for their very first residential experience.
Sleeping away from home for the first time is a big milestone, and our Year 3 pupils took it in their stride. With bell tents pitched under the stars and toasted marshmallows by the campfire, the sense of adventure was matched only by the laughter and camaraderie shared among friends.
We are so proud of each and every child for embracing this challenge with such enthusiasm and spirit. A massive thank you to our brilliant prep school teachers for planning the experience and accompanying the children. And, of course, a huge well done to Year 3 – your Tranby adventure has only just begun!
