Tranby Senior School Normandy Trip 2025

Tranby Senior School Normandy Trip 2025

The Easter break saw our Senior School pupils jet off for an immersive and jam-packed trip to Normandy where they truly embraced French culture!

Pupils from Years 7 to 10, along with members of Year 12, experienced an enriching educational trip to Normandy, France. This immersive experience brought various subjects - including history, geography, food and nutrition, and French language learning - to life outside the classroom.

A significant highlight of the trip was a visit to Mémorial de Caen, a museum and war memorial located in Caen. This museum focuses on the history of the 20th century, particularly World War II, the D-Day landings, and the Battle for Caen. The students also visited the spot of the D-Day landings where they respectfully laid a memorial wreath, honouring those who sacrificed their lives in the name of liberation from oppresssion. A very touching and poingnant moment for both the staff and the students.

Culinary adventures were also on the agenda, with students participating in a masterclass on traditional Camembert cheese-making. They not only learned the intricate process behind crafting this iconic cheese but also had the opportunity to sample a variety of exquisite regional cheeses, deepening their appreciation for French gastronomy.

Embracing the local culture, many students ventured to taste escargots (snails), demonstrating their openness to experiencing authentic French cuisine. For those who weren't so keen (most of them!) a refreshing mocktail helped cleanse the palate!

Throughout the journey, pupils actively engaged with the French language, practicing their skills in real-life situations and enhancing their linguistic confidence. The trip also fostered new friendships and encouraged personal growth, as students navigated new environments and embraced diverse cultural experiences. across year groups.

From exploring significant historical landmarks such as the breathtaking Mont-Saint-Michel - one of the most famous landmarks in France. Perched on a rocky island, it becomes surrounded by the sea during high tide but at low tide, you can walk across the sand to reach it, to indulging in local culinary delights, every moment of the Normandy adventure offered unique opportunities for learning and personal development, truly embodying the Tranby way.

We want to thank the accompanying staff who made the trip possible and ensured it was a fun but vital learning experience for our students. And to the students themselves who, as always, represented Tranby impacibly - you made fantasic holiday 'compagnons!'
