Senior School PSHE morning - April 2023

Senior School PSHE morning - April 2023

General

The PSHE curriculum is delivered across four PSHE mornings throughout the academic year. The senior programme is drawn up by the PSHE Coordinator and Deputy Head Pastoral, and the programme is delivered by teachers and visiting speakers. Each programme is structured with close reference to the PSHE Association Programme of Study to ensure that all requirements are covered by the end of each Key Stage.

Today was the third of our PSHE drop-down mornings for the academic year. Thank you to our guest speaker Mr Dan Williams from Morgan Williams & Co who spoke to Sixth Form students about financial skills: moving on from school. Other year groups were fully immersed in a range of activities including:

  • Personel Safety -  Understanding Risk: demonstrating resilience and making safer choices around drugs, tobacco and alcohol
  • Work and Society - Work Identity: thinking abut future careers, belonging: the migrant experience
  • Concientious Decision Making - From Here to Where: considering social, environmental and economic factors that influence our health decisions and Moral Thinking: differentiating between beliefs, opinions, values & fact
  • Preparing for Adulthood -  Value for money: the importance of budgeting and interview practice / Unifrog
  • Transition to KS5 / post-16 - Donation: blood, organs & stem cells, contaception, how to thrive in Higher Education, managing exam stress through exercise
  • Grub on a Grant
  • Finance and Emotional Health - Putting it into practice; rent vs mortgage and the financial future I want, recognising mental ill-health, promoting emotional wellbeing

PSHE Coordinator, Mrs Carrizales said ''It is always rewarding to see pupils engaging so readily with their PSHE content given its significance as part of their holistic education. We are grateful to guest speaker Dan Williams who gave his time to share his expertise with our pupils. I would also like to offer a huge thanks to our wonderful Tranby team who were involved in a dozen different sessions across the course of the morning.''

Below are some photos taken from the morning including Year 13 students who enjoyed 'Grub on a Grant'. Each group were given £7 to go and buy some ingredients to make a meal. They had an hor to cook a dish of their choosing which was judged by Headmistress, Alex Wilson and staff. All very impressive and delicious - well done to everyone!
