Tranby was alive with literary magic as students and staff from Pre-Prep to Senior School came together to celebrate the joy and value of reading on World Book Day. The school was a vibrant scene of book characters brought to life, with costumes ranging from the funny and cute to the slightly spooky and wonderfully imaginative.
In Pre-Prep and Prep School, the day was packed with exciting activities. Children tested their literary knowledge in quizzes, with Evie P (Year 2) and Harry Q (Year 6) emerging as the winners. Pre-Prep pupils enjoyed a game of matching objects to their books, while Prep School students tackled a 20-question multiple-choice challenge.
A highlight of the day was storytime during Period 2, where each staff member selected a book to read, and pupils from Reception to Year 6 chose which classroom to visit. It was heartwarming to see older and younger children sitting together, with older students looking after the little ones. Paired reading sessions also strengthened these cross-year connections, as older pupils helped younger ones with their reading, creating a truly special experience.
Adding an element of adventure, our wonderful librarian organised a treasure hunt spanning both Prep and Senior School. Pupils eagerly searched for animals hidden in stories, all while racking up their step counts!
No World Book Day would be complete without a costume parade, and Thursday’s assembly saw some outstanding outfits. Congratulations to our winners:
Thomas P (Reception)
Rafi N (Year 4)
Jack W (Year 5)
Meanwhile, in Senior School, creativity was on full display as form groups transformed their classroom doors into spectacular book-themed masterpieces. The winners were:
1st Place: Mrs Pick’s form
2nd Place (Joint): Mr Birtchenell & Miss Davies
3rd Place: Mrs Saxby-Knaggs
Finally, the Book Fair gave pupils the perfect opportunity to pick up new reads and further fuel their love for literature.
A huge thank you to everyone who took part in this fantastic day – from our brilliant staff for their enthusiasm to our pupils for their creativity and passion for books. Here’s to another year of inspiring young minds through reading!
