The Top of the Bench is a national competition run by the Royal Society of Chemistry for 14-16 year old students. The competition starts with regional heats and they take on various forms including quizzes, presentations and practical experiments.

Tranby sent two teams consisting of two Year 9s, one Year 10 and one Pre-Sixth student to the regional heats in November last year at the University of Hull. The winning team members were Pre-Sixth Aaron, Year 10 Yahya and Year 9s Jack and Douglas with a time that was less than a second off 20 seconds. They now go through to the national finals which will be held in London next month.

Headmistress, Alex Wilson presented a trophy to our Top of the Bench winners in today’s assembly. She said ‘’I am very proud of all our pupils, they have worked very hard as a team and have all put a lot into this competition. They all deserve enormous credit for their efforts and achievement. We are looking forward to the final and wish Jack, Douglas, Aaron and Yahya the best of luck.’’
