Year 11 Abigail performs at the semi-finals of the BBC Songs of Praise Young Chorister of the Year

General

We are extremely proud of Year 11 Abigail who performed at the televised semi-finals of the hugely prestigious BBC Young Chorister of the Year competition yesterday.

Songs of Praise and Radio 2 have joined together to celebrate the contribution made by young people to choirs and music groups across the UK and find the BBC Young Chorister of the Year 2022.

Abigail is one of only 10 outstanding young singers (five girls and five boys) who were selected by a panel of eminent choral directors from the worlds of choral and church music. Abigail sang 'Love Divine' by Howard Goodall who was one of the judges alongside Katherine Jenkins and David Grant. Aled Jones presented the event from The Monastery in Manchester.

Unfortunately Abigail didn't go through to the finals but her performance was outstanding. Howard Goodall said ''Well done, thank you for singing my piece so beautifully. You gave it a tremendous sense of drama and narrative. You had a completely perfect understanding of those words and way they are set.''

Abigail's music teacher, Rachel Dent said ''Abi is a superstar. I am so proud of what she has achieved and I could not have asked her to sing any better. She maintained truly professional composure throughout the whole experience. She will sing again next week in the group item alongside the other choristers and Aled Jones!''

Abigail said ''I had nerves all day but everyone made it a such a fun experience. I am completely happy with how it has turned out and ontent with whatever happens.''
