Success in the Royal Society Of Chemistry Top of the Bench Competition

General

On 17 November it was the return of the Royal Society of Chemistry Top of the Bench competition. The event was held in the teaching labs at the University of Hull. We sent two teams consisting of two Year 9s, one Year 10 and one Year 11 student.

A practical challenge was the task to alter the reactants in an oscillating reaction so that one oscillation took exactly 20 seconds.

The winning team members were Aaron, Yahya, Jack and Douglas with a time that was less than a second off 20 seconds. Well done to the other team members Vincent, Jack, Erin and Alice.

We will now go to the national final which will be held at the University of East London next spring.

Chemistry teacher, Mrs Gibbs said “ It was great to back in person for this competition and for the students to experience a practical task in the university teaching labs . We are looking forward to representing Hull and East Riding local division in the final”.
