General

Last week,Tranby’s English Department were delighted to welcome John Sannaee, a PHD Comparative Literature Student from the University of Paris 8 Vincennes–Saint–Denis, who kindly gave our GCSE and A Level students a taster of life in higher education.

John delivered a challenging and thought-provoking university seminar on Shelley’s exploration of ‘the sublime’ and ‘the beautiful’ in Frankenstein to Year 12 and 13 literature students followed by a talk to pre-sixth and sixth-form students on the opportunities available in higher education (including discussion on international study opportunities, PHD funding and top tips for applying to university). It was a pleasure to witness students tackle challenging material beyond their years and show a desire to pursue the subjects they love beyond undergraduate level.

At the end of his visit, John stated that he was impressed by the profound arguments, proficient use of complex terminology and mature verbal and written expression shown by Tranby’s English students. He explained that their transition to university would be seamless as they are well equipped to embark on further students in higher education.

Tranby’s English team would like to thank John for taking the time to work with our students and we wish him all the best for his future endeavours.
