Meet the new Senior Prefect team 2022-23

General

We are pleased to announce our new Senior Prefect team. Joyce and Sheema have been chosen to be Head Prefects, Evelyn and Maisie have been selected to be Deputy Head Prefects and Zarah, Zak and Will are Senior Prefects.

The application round was rigorous and extensive, involving cover letters, presentations and panel interviews. Each student expounded with confidence and pride on the range of activities, events and super-curricular work they had done over the years. Their credibility and their capabilities are a profound testament to the School’s capacity to support the development of confident young leaders.

Today the team met with Headmistress, Alex Wilson for the first meeting in their new roles. They also caught up with some Year 6 pupils on the from lawn during break.

Here's what the team had to say at the start of their new journey:

Joyce
Since joining the school in Year 7, Tranby has given me countless opportunities to flourish as a student, encouraging me to fully immerse myself in the school community from the moment I joined. The School has always achieved this in impressive and exciting ways, whether it be competitions, extra-curricular activities or form time discussions, we have been supported and guided as we made our way up through the School.

On top of this, the School’s drive and ethos have encouraged us to be positively challenged so we can excel both academically and personally. Now that I have been given the opportunity to be a part of the student leadership team, I aim to seize it and continue to deliver the supportive and inclusive atmosphere the School has always provided.

Since Tranby has helped me in innumerable ways so far, I am honoured to now be given the chance to give something back. As Head Prefect, I will strive to make a positive change in our School, along with the help of the other exceptional members of the student leadership team.

Sheema
I have always had appreciation for this role, as representing the School isn’t something to be taken lightly. I wanted to apply for a Prefect position because I wished to be a role model for people throughout the School. The idea of being able to encourage younger students to achieve their potential is crucial and knowing that I’ve been given the opportunity to express my ideas and use my voice in a positive manner is really meaningful. I’m very grateful to have been chosen, and I’m willing to do what it takes in the coming year to make the school a better place.

Maisie
It is a privilege to attend Tranby, and the School has given me so much from an academic and confidence perspective, that I wanted to give my time back to the School. Having such an important role, with responsibility, will allow me to develop many different skills, which I can then utilise in all areas of life, particularly in my future applications for university and a career in medicine.

I am very grateful and over the moon, to have been selected as a Deputy Head Prefect, representing Tranby, and I am excited to see what opportunities await within this role. I am an extremely positive and happy person and hope to create positive changes within the School community.

Evelyn
I am so happy and proud to be a part of the Senior Prefect team. I can't wait to get started. To me being part of the Senior Prefect team means: being passionate, confident, reliable, visible and representing the pupil's' and School's views, ethos and values. Another priority of the Senior Prefect team should be being a friendly face around the building for all pupils; showing that we care and want to support each individual's aspirations and ambitions - providing floors not ceilings and nurturing their potential.

I am honoured to be part of the Tranby Senior Prefect team as a Deputy Head Prefect. I'm sure that I will learn a variety of key skills that will inevitably help and benefit me throughout my whole life.

Will
The role of a Senior Prefect has always represented a challenge to me, creating a balance between academic and prefect commitments, alongside extra-curricular activities, cannot be understated. Being able to accept such a challenge is something I feel great pride in achieving.

Having studied at the School for several years now, growing anticipation over the proposed Senior Prefect positions led myself to discover the reasons as to why I felt I’d become a viable candidate for the role. Gaining the opportunity to improve the school life of others and take on a new level of responsibility within our school community combine to form part of important experience in leadership. Partnering this with my want to become an influential figure who possesses aspirational qualities, I felt it necessary to apply for a role. So, having gained the position of Senior Prefect, I feel excited to put these ideas into action.

Zak
I’ve seen through my six years at Tranby what a difference the Senior Prefect team can make within the School and the further community, and I have always aspired to be part of the team. I wanted to be a visible student representative at Tranby and influence decision making to help build positive relationships throughout School to sustain it's family feel.

I feel honoured to be given the opportunity to represent the School and be part of a team which I hope will make a difference throughout the next academic year. It was a long and hard process therefore I feel extremely grateful to be chosen as part of the Senior Prefect team.

Zarah
I applied to be a Senior Prefect as I would like other students to benefit from our School as much as I have. It is also an excellent opportunity to connect with other students at Tranby. It is another way for me to represent the School which I think is valuable. I am looking forward to the year ahead, working with my fellow prefects and embracing the challenge.
