Early this summer we had the pleasure of welcoming students from China, here's how it went!
School may have closed for the summer on Wednesday the 3rd of July but it’s been an exciting and busy week for some staff and pupils of our Prep School as we've had the pleasure of hosting international students from China here at Tranby!
Our visiting students participated in our lessons and explored all the great tourist destinations Hull and East Yorkshire have to offer. The trip was educational and packed full of fun, with memories made to last a lifetime.
Welcoming the students on Tuesday the 2nd of July, no time was wasted introducing them to the staff and pupils they would spend their time with during their stay and integrating them into lessons. With school closing on Wednesday, Thursday kicked off a week of fun excursions that took them all around East Yorkshire and showed our visitors how we do things The Tranby Way.
On Thursday, the students embarked on an exciting excursion to our Forest School - huge thanks to our partners Humber Forest School with Cindy and Chris who gave our visitors an authentic Forest school experience. Then it was on to the Humber Bridge viewing point and park. The weather was perfect for all this outdoor fun and they had a great day!
Friday brought another adventure as the group visited the Alpaca Centre followed by an exciting and fun-filled afternoon at Williams Den – a firm favourite amongst local families! The children burned off so much energy climbing, zip-wiring, hiding and exploring the vast forest area in the lovely sunshine.
After a restful weekend, the fun continued on Monday with a trip to the brilliant museums in Hull’s Old Town, a stroll around the Old Town itself, and Hull Marina. The children loved immersing themselves in Roman and Victorian culture, dressing up in costumes and learning about how life would've been lived in those times.
Tuesday’s journey took them to York where they visited the brilliant Railway Museum and the stunning York Minster. However, we think the students were particularly excited about chocolate tasting; a last-minute visit thrown in to get out of the torrential rain and a well-deserved treat for the adults and children after battling the typical British ‘summer’ weather all day!
On the final day of their visit, the students explored Ferens Art Gallery, visited beautiful East Park and finished the day with an exciting trip to the world’s only submarium – the world-famous The Deep in Hull City Centre. This last adventure was the perfect way to cap off a week of exploration, learning, and new friendships. They experienced so much of what Hull - and indeed - Tranby has to offer in such a short time and they left us with smiles and a wealth of stories to share back home. We’re sure the children slept for the entire flight back!
It's been an enriching cultural experience for our pupils and our visitors. With the help of modern technology, we’re sure the bonds built with their new friends from across the globe will stay strong.
This incredible experience wouldn’t have been possible without Mrs Douglas - a parent at Tranby who opened the discussion with the families and school in China, and the Head of Prep Mrs Sweeting. To our wonderful staff Mrs Crossland, Mrs Malthouse, Mr Stannard, Mr Dyson, Miss Atkinson and Ms Long, thank you for organising and attending the trips and taking time out of your summer holidays to make this experience a huge success. Our visitors loved spending time with you which is evident from all the smiling faces in the photos!
We hope this is something we can expand upon next year so watch this space! Until next time…
非常感谢你们的到来,我们会想念你们的。
