A Level Results Propel Tranby Pupils to Bright Futures
Today Tranby are proud to celebrate the achievements of our Upper Sixth!
With a return to the historic standards of A Level examinations and having taken GCSEs still under the shadow of COVID, this cohort has performed exceptionally well showing their resilience and perseverance. We always have the highest expectations and are so proud of the work our Upper-Sixth have put in to ensure they secure their all-important places at university and higher apprenticeship programmes.
96% accessed their first-choice university and the remaining 4% secured their insurance choice, which made for a celebratory morning here at Tranby.
As recent news had implied, schools had reason to worry about how the day might go, but here at Tranby, we are proud that these results continue to ensure our students access the higher education courses of their choice across a diverse range of ambitious university places.
Although every student in the year group has earned results to be proud of, and which we celebrate, with impressive and challenging futures now ahead of them, we wanted to draw attention to some particular successes from amongst the cohort:
Jasper achieved AAA in Physics, Maths and Economics, and after showing a keen interest in Physics from a young age, fuelled by our vast range of co-curricular excursions over the years and his key role in the Physics ‘TASA’ club, will go on to study Physics at Nottingham University. Jasper attributes his desire and love of physics to his teachers and describes how he has found their help invaluable. “All of my teachers at Tranby have been so supportive in not just helping me achieve the best grades possible, but also in realising my potential and helping develop my passions, for which I will always be eternally grateful. Having a dream and now being able to achieve it is just fantastic and I cannot wait to see what the future holds for me.”
Daniel has always been involved in school life, whether playing in our sports teams, mentoring younger students or being part of the outgoing senior prefect team, Daniel has thrown himself into every aspect of our school community. It is no surprise to any member of staff that Daniel wanted to make a career out of talking, and after securing a D*BB in Sport, History and Film, he has secured his place at Salford studying Broadcast Journalism. “The support I received for my UCAS application was just second to none. From filling in the form to writing my personal statement and receiving interview prep, it was a seamless process that I am incredibly grateful for. Knowing I was supported and believed in made it possible for me to achieve my dream, and that is something I will never forget.”
Bethan is a fantastic sportswoman; she has always played for our school teams as well as helping to coach younger teams and running additional sporting events. Having enjoyed her BTEC course immensely, Bethan is leaving us to study Sports Science, Coaching and PE at Loughborough after securing D*D*D*C in Sport and Mathematics with D*(Distinction) being the highest grade possible on a BTEC course. “I am elated with my results today and so excited to be heading to Loughborough to continue my sporting education. My teachers have always had immense faith in me, even when I sometimes didn’t. They have supported me throughout my entire time at Tranby and I am sad to be saying goodbye.”
Thomas is described by his teachers as an ‘all-rounder', with both academic and sporting prowess making him an excellent member of our school community and a trusted and respected senior prefect in his final year. Thomas achieved AAB in Economics, Maths and Physics and an A in his Extended Project Qualification. Thomas will be attending Nottingham University where he will be studying Aerospace Engineering. “Having been at Tranby for over fourteen years, I cannot believe this day has come, but what a great and happy day it is. Securing my first-choice university place has allowed me to celebrate my results with my teachers, friends and family, and I am incredibly grateful for all the help and support I have received throughout my time here.”
Having joined us from a local state school, Eleanor had shown great interest in the creative subjects but was unsure what she wanted to study at A Level. After careful thought and processing, Eleanor decided on Textiles, Photography and Sociology and today received ABC in her chosen subjects. Eleanor is now looking to start her degree in Fashion Design at Leeds where she will build on the skills she has learned at A Level. “Had it not been for Tranby, I would not be going to my first-choice university to pursue a career in Fashion Design, my one true passion. I am so grateful for the help and attention I have received here at Tranby and for always being allowed to dream big and feeling fully supported in those dreams. Thank you, Tranby, for everything you have given me.”
Head Mistress Alex Wilson said: “Today has been wonderful to see our Upper Sixth leavers secure results which will allow them to progress to the next stage of life and pursue their dreams at an impressive range of universities and career pathways. We wish all of our Upper Sixth the very best with their future and look forward to seeing them again as they return to visit Tranby in the years ahead.”
