Encouraging Pioneering Women of the Future at Tranby with WiME

Inspiring Future Generations: Girls from Tranby Attend Women into Manufacturing and Engineering Event.

On Wednesday 9 October, an exciting opportunity unfolded for 30 girls from years 6 - 11 as they attended the Women into Manufacturing and Engineering (WiME) event at The Guildhall in Hull.

This initiative, supported by Hull City, East Riding, North Lincolnshire, and North East Lincolnshire Councils, aims to encourage girls and women to pursue careers in STEM fields such as manufacturing, engineering, digital technologies, construction, and renewables.

The event kicked off with a compelling presentation by WiME Chair, Dr Kirsty Clode, who highlighted the pressing need for change in the industry, noting that only 9% of engineers in our region are female. "We need to inspire more girls to consider careers in these fields," she urged, setting the tone for a day dedicated to empowerment and exploration.

Following Dr Clode's address, students had the chance to engage with representatives from a variety of organisations, discovering work experience opportunities, apprenticeship programs, and graduate pathways. The girls were particularly inspired by the passionate women in engineering and manufacturing roles, who shared their experiences and insights about their careers.

Exhibitors offered a wealth of information, along with hands-on activities, allowing the students to experience the dynamic world of STEM firsthand. As Dr Clode aptly stated, "You can't be what you can't see." This event certainly provided an invaluable platform for our Y6 prep school and senior school students to envision their futures and the potential paths they could take.

The trip was not only educational but also motivational, showcasing the diverse opportunities available to women in these vital industries. We look forward to seeing these young women flourish in their future endeavours!

With huge thanks to Green Port Hull for your time and our outstanding careers coordinator, Jo Harding for planning this brilliant excursion.
