Tranby celebrates outstanding GCSE results

General

With the education sector committed to running public exams once more, Tranby has found immense success with its first sitting of public exams since 2019.

Year 11s taking the Maths GCSE in January have been rewarded with impressive grades. The pass rate was 100%, with 95% of students achieving a 5 or above, typically considered the gold standard grade in GCSE.

In the school’s top set, all of whom faced the early challenges of the higher paper, 91% secured a grade 7-9 – considered A and above under the old system – with over a third taking home a grade 9, the highest possible.

Timmy, Year 11, was only one mark from full marks in the higher Maths paper. He said  “It is very reassuring to know that our exam result has matched our best hopes, and that we have continued to achieve the strongest outcomes in spite of the disruption of the last two years.”

Assistant Head Jo Dyer, the School’s Head of Mathematics, said: “The department is immensely proud of these pupils. They have worked hard to achieve these results and we are delighted that they have done so well. We are looking forward to being able to challenge these pupils further in the run up to the summer exams, as improvements remain possible in both the GCSE Mathematics and Further Mathematics papers.”

Headmistress, Alex Wilson praised the results, saying: “The last few years have been tough for all our students, and it is a credit to them and to our incredible teachers that they have done so well in what have been challenging circumstances. We are now very excited for what should be more outstanding results from our GCSE and A level students in the summer.”
