Enrichment Programme for Year 8 pupils

General

As part of the School’s ‘Enrichment Programme’ the baton was passed to the English department to deliver a super-curricular session which exposed students to academic material beyond examinable content. Today, Year 8 students studied Article 19 of the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights and debated whether censorship (and historic book burnings) are a direct impingement on our right to freedom of speech. Texts ranged from ‘To Kill a Mockingbird’ through to ‘The Lorax.’

Head of English, Mr Latham said ''It was a pleasure to witness students grapple with such challenging material through debates, group challenges and presentation—based activities. The students had truly found their voice today and certainly proved themselves to be successful future leaders.''
