A literary Victorian experience by Year 7 Alicia

A literary Victorian experience by Year 7 Alicia

General

In Tranby’s English department, students are always encouraged to research, explore and enjoy areas of study which reach beyond the texts studied in the classroom. In order to compliment her class’ study of ‘A Christmas Carol,’ Year 7 Alicia took this ethos to a whole new level by treating her peers to a ‘literary Victorian experience:’ she very kindly brought in a range of original Victorian publications and articles ranging from a collection of short stories dated 1847, Victorian Christmas cards and an envelope (with original wax seal) signed by the one and only Wilkie Collins – a particular highlight for Mr Latham’s Year 7 group who are avid Agatha Christie fans!

Thanks must go to both Alicia and her dad Simon Patterson from Hyraxia Books who have once again inspired Tranby’s English students. It is opportunities like these which give our students a practical understanding of the worlds behind the texts studied and we are incredibly grateful for their kindness and generosity.
